Skill Requirements:


Education: Completion of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training


Credentials (certificates, licences, memberships, courses, etc.): Registered animal technician


Experience: No experience


Languages: Speak English, Read English, Write English


Work Setting: Veterinary clinic


Area of Specialization: Animal dentistry, Exotic animals, Small animals, Emergency care, Animal training


Specific Skills: Handle, restrain and care for animals undergoing treatment and surgery, Assist veterinarian before, during and after surgery, Prepare and administer medications and vaccines under direction of veterinarian, Administer treatments as prescribed by veterinarian, Counsel clients on animal health care, Produce diagnostic radiographs, collect samples and perform other laboratory tests, Veterinary office management


Security and Safety: Basic security clearance
